Reframing Career Development as a Core Component of

Graduate & Postdoctoral Education

Scholarly Focus

PhD-trained scientists play important roles across the scientific enterprise and in society. In spite of this, graduate and postdoctoral education have traditionally assumed preparation for academic research careers. My scholarship focuses on understanding the interests and challenges faced by PhD trainees as they explore and navigate their early career, enhancing educational approaches to address these challenges, and building national capacity for evaluation, research, and dissemination of effective practices in PhD career development.

Engagement

Engaging with stakeholders across the scientific community is critical for understanding key challenges facing our field, and for applying diverse perspectives to addressing these challenges.  I welcome opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues, share our work, collaborate, and learn from others.
