Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) are agreements covering the transfer of research materials between two or more organizations. MTAs help clearly lay out the rights and obligations of parties involved in the transfer.

Incoming MTAs – when materials are being transferred from an outside organization to UMass Chan Medical School.

Outgoing MTAs are for materials being transferred from a UMass Chan Medical School to an outside organization.

Points to think about when requesting a MTA:

• Detailed, description of materials
• Receiving/Sending party contact information
• Desired/permitted use of materials.
• Confidentiality considerations
• Publication considerations
• Length of time needed to use the material
