Overview

Postdoctoral research is an important step in the training of a scientist and sets the stage for pursuing an independent career.  The Biochemistry & Molecular Biotechnology Department (BMB) provides an excellent environment for postdoctoral researchers to expand their skills by integrating them into all departmental activities. Among other activities, postdoctoral researchers present their work in our Friday afternoon “Chalk Talk”; participate in scientific journal clubs, and many BMB Postdocs work with their advisors to apply for fellowships.  A listing of postdoctoral fellowships is available here. Postdocs trained in the BMB department go on to independent positions in many fields.

In addition to departmental resources, UMMS has an Office for Postdoctoral Scholars (OPS), which offers programs in professional development, training and placement, coordinates a seminar series, and is an advocate for postdocs and their advisors.  For international postdoctoral researchers, the Office of International Scholars assists incoming and current researchers with Visa and travel issues.  Postdoctoral researchers at UMMS have a wide variety of benefit packages that they can choose from to fit their family’s needs.
