Message from the Chancellor

Chancellor CollinsThere has never been a more exciting time to be a part of the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, the commonwealth’s first and only public academic health sciences center. Our dynamic community brings together extraordinary faculty and students in three graduate schools—the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing, the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Science and the T.H. Chan School of Medicine—all with a mission to advance the health and wellness of our diverse communities throughout Massachusetts and across the world.

Ranked among the best nursing schools in America by the Nursing Schools Almanac, and with exceptionally high first-time licensure exam pass rates, the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing prepares students for inspiring and challenging careers as nursing leaders and compassionate healers. Established in 1986, the GSN is an interprofessional partner of the integrated academic health sciences center at UMass Chan Medical School. It grants Doctor of Nursing Practice and PhD in Nursing degrees and offers several post-master’s certificates for advanced practice nursing specialties through online and hybrid programs.

The UMass Chan Medical School campus is home to a vibrant academic health sciences community that is at the forefront of scientific advancement and a global destination for biomedical research. Generating Nobel-Prize-winning scientific discoveries, UMass Chan Medical School attracts nearly $400 million in annual research funding and our faculty consistently produce significant advances in basic and clinical research. In 2021, UMass Chan Medical School will mark the opening of a Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic on our lakeside campus in Worcester, Mass., and in 2024, a new nine-story education and research building adjacent to the campus green is expected to open.

As we chart an exciting path forward, aligned with our IMPACT 2025 Strategic Plan, UMass Chan Medical School recognizes that diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental to our continued success. Our institution strives to represent the full richness of diverse populations, perspectives and experiences, and ensure that all members of our academic community are able to thrive in a welcoming and inclusive environment. And our entire campus community is fully committed to supporting students’ professional, intellectual and emotional growth so they have opportunities to fulfill their potential and achieve their professional goals. I invite you to learn more about the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing and explore how joining our community can help you fulfill your dreams.
